What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata that cameras and phones embed in every photo: device model, capture date and time, exposure settings, editing software — and, if location services were on, the GPS coordinates of the exact spot where the photo was taken. Anyone you send the file to can read it.
When should I remove it?
Before sharing photos anywhere the original file travels intact: email, cloud links, marketplaces, forums. Note that big social networks already strip EXIF on upload — but chat apps sending "as file" and direct transfers usually don't.
What's the difference between the two download options?
Lossless surgically removes the metadata segments from the JPEG file — the image pixels stay bit-for-bit identical, no quality loss. Re-encoded redraws the image onto a clean canvas: it also works for PNG and WebP, and it bakes in the correct rotation, at the cost of a re-compression pass.
Is it really private?
Yes. There is no upload: reading and stripping happen in your browser with JavaScript. Close the tab and nothing remains.
